I received a response

I got an email from my boss this afternoon which said the following regarding my proposal to work part time upon my return in mid-January:

"In concept it should be workable. We’ll be back to you with the details next week regarding a change to part-time employment. Talk soon."

I had a feeling he would come around once he thought about it a bit and talked to the other senior staff. So, it is looking promising that I will be able to work part time. I will wait and see what he sends me next week. I am hoping he is okay with a 24 hour work week, that would be me working 3 days per week. I think that would be the best option. It will still be very difficult to return to work, but with 3 days a week in the office, that means I would have 4 days a week with Julie, which is certainly better than 2!

I'm glad that he came around. :)

It will be tough I am sure to get back to it, but it may not be as bad as you worry either. And, if it is, then you can start exploring other options maybe?

I, for one, always thought you would make an excellent bookkeeper since you are so good with numbers and money. And that would be something you could do out of your home. I really hope you can work out something that you can be satisfied with.

*hugs*

It's funny you should say that nej because I was thinking about that a few months ago. I realized that if I had a "do over", I would have gone into the accounting field instead of engineering.

Being a part time bookkeeper is definitely something I am considering. I could get my accreditation through an online program so that I can work at my own pace.

I just think it is really telling since you brought that up and it was already something I was considering as one of my options if working part time at my company doesn't work out!

:)

I just think it's a natural for you. You are already taking care of Oma's finances, your own, and you have been for a long time. I remember you getting the budgeting software in 3rd year and being stoked about it! Actually, I've been thinking I'll need to set up my own budgeting in the next year, so I might have some questions for you.

My mom has been taking some accounting / bookkeeping courses online... just as a side note. :)

Actually, Niki, it was your mom I thought of when I was thinking about something Christine could do that would allow her to work her own hours. :)

Geez, maybe I should take a bookkeeping course. ;)

It is certainly something I have been considering. If working part time at my company is a go, I will give it a try and see how it goes. If I find it too difficult, then I will explore my other options and this is definitely one of them!
