We had a meeting this morning and there was a huge box of doughnuts that somebody brought. So, for the entire hour, they were sitting right in front of me on the table. And I didn’t take one! All I could smell were doughnuts, and everyone around me was eating them, but I totally resisted the urge and didn’t take one! I thought about it, remembered that I had already entered all my food into WW online and didn’t have any points left over for today, so I couldn’t have a doughnut. Of course, I could have used flex points, but I decided not to. I am so proud of myself today! Yay!
Maybe this is the first step in something good for me! I have been working out consistently (3-4 times per week) for a month and a half now, I have to start seeing results soon. I have been noticing that I am feeling like I am in better shape, and I have been able to increase the amount of weights I use in the workouts, so that has to count for something! Maybe one of these weeks my efforts will finally start showing on the scale. It just has to. I have never tried so hard at this in my whole life. It has to start working soon!

Yay! That's awesome! I'm proud of you too. Those donuts were probably yucky anyway... :)
I have to start exercising again. I've been a lazy bum for the last few weeks.
Hmm, I would like to know what your secret is because you've lost so much weight in the last few weeks! How did you do that if it's not by exercising?
I would love to lose 10 pounds by being a 'lazy bum' ;)
Well 4.5lbs were lost when I was sick. I wouldn't recommend that approach... lol.
This is what I've been doing:
I don't snack much anymore. Sometimes I don't have anything other than my 3 meals a day. After dinner, I don't eat again (unless I'm up really late and starving!). And I'm drinking a TONNE of water. At least 2L while I'm at work, and usually another 0.5L in the evenings. Oh, and I almost never drink pop anymore. Just water and my morning cup of coffee.
When I do have a snack now, it's usually an apple or other piece of fruit. I've cut down on bread too, so most of my fibre comes from my morning cereal (I have fiber one, which I add to my regular bowl of either shreddies or whatever cereal I have that week).
I don't know if any of this gives you some ideas, but that's what's been working for me lately.
I really do have to get back to exercise though. I don't want to be thin and flabby! :O
Thanks for the inspiration! I have been trying some of those things too, but there is always room for improvement.
I have cut down on my pop intake, I used to drink 1 diet coke a day, now it's 1 every other day. I'm going to try to reduce that even further.
And I am really trying my best to cut out my after supper snacking, but is has been really hard! I think that may be my problem. I have really been trying to change that! I think I'm going to have to start brushing my teeth or using my whitening trays after supper so I don't put anything else in my mouth.
And I'm the opposite of you. I find it really hard to drink water at work (I have no idea why). I usually only drink 0.5 L of water at work, but I drink at least 1-1.5 L at home every evening. I'm going to try to up my water intake at work to at least 1L.
Yeah, I keep my nalgene with me at my desk, always filled! I try to fill it twice in the day (once in the morning at home and then at lunchtime here at work).
That way, I can't really forget my water. I end up going to the bathroom a LOT but I guess it's all worth it... lol
Also, I've been reading a book called the Beck Diet Solution, which covers the mental aspect of dieting and has really helped keep me on track. It has strategies to keep you motivated, and helps identify any sabotaging thoughts. I have more of those than I ever thought! It was a real eye-opener. I'd be happy to post excerpts on my blog if you want to know what it's about. :)
Also, my biggest problem has always been that I eat when I'm bored. Now when I'm bored, I consciously make the decision NOT to eat and try to find something to occupy my hands (like knitting!).
In the winter I usually snack on a pomegranate 2x a week in the evening. Not sure if you like them? Apparently the seeds are an excellent source of fibre, and the juice is full of anti-oxidants. Plus picking at them keeps you busy for a while...
Just a thought.
I would definately like to hear more about that book you're reading, nej!
Thanks for the suggestion, Burger! I don't think I've ever had a pomegranate. I think you're right though, I need something to keep me busy so I don't get snacking.
I'd like to read some excerpts from that book too! Since I'm no longer breastfeeding, I'm no longer losing pregnancy-weight simply by sitting around all day! I really need to get into a fitness routine... heck, I need to get into any kind of routine.
Cool, I will start posting tomorrow. It's a 6 week program (one step per day). The book is here: http://www.amazon.com/Beck-Diet-Solution-Train-Person/dp/0848731735/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196970749&sr=1-1
Hopefully the link works... there's a way to browse the contents of the book online at amazon. If the link doesn't work, just do a search for Beck Diet under books... :)
I'll start with Day One tomorrow!
Man, I read some of the exerpts from that book and it seems like it is written for me! I always do the whole "it won't matter this one time" thing. Well "one time"s keep on adding up!
Thanks for the recommendation, I think if I'm near Chapters on my shopping this weekend, I may pick that book up. Seems like it has a lot of useful information!
You're welcome. It's been an eye-opener for me! It was recommended by some of my WW friends.
I like that it says things like "You're probably thinking X." Most of the time, that's exactly what I'm thinking! lol
