5 coats of polyurethane later...

The home renos are coming along well. I took my Dad down to inspect the floors yesterday evening and he said "if it were me, I would do 1 more coat, and sand first. Once you sand, make sure you clean it really well before applying the last coat". Not what I wanted to hear, I was hoping 4 coats would be enough. But, I figured I wanted to do it right, so I put a 5th coat on this evening. And I made sure to sand lightly first and clean it really well. I think the floors are going to look awesome!

Today, my hired painters came back (friends of my grandmother's), so that was nice to have their help. They painted the ceilings in my living room/dining room and my bedroom. And they started painting the crown molding as well. I think by the end of the day tomorrow, the walls will be primed and maybe even the first coat of paint on. Then friday, finish up the painting and my furature comes in on Saturday. Tight schedule, but I think it's doable. I also have the painters hired for next week for a few days (I will be back at work). I will still have lots for them to do next week.

It was quite funny, when I told my grandma the living/dinign room ceiling was going to be painted chocolate brown, she said "WHAT?!?! You can't paint a ceiling that colour!". But, now that it is done, she said "that looks really nice!" Sheesh. Everyone who has seen it has loved it. I think it looks really good. I can get away with it since I have 10' ceilings and there is lots of light in that area. I'm glad I didn't let her talk me out of it, cuz it looks awesome!

I am getting really tired though. All this hard manual labour really tires me out! I think going back to work will seem like a "vacation" after all this! I am really enjoying the renos, it is just a lot of work. But it will be so worth it!

Oooh... I want to see a picture of the chocolate ceiling! :D

Sounds like you are putting a lot of work into your house. That's my favorite part of owning... you can do reno's and make changes whenever/however you like.
